Elon Musk: Managers are always a bad idea

He's right, of course. As I recall from my professional career, managers almost always f*cked things up. And yet they were considered a superior career position and paid more money. The reality is that they were paid lackeys of a defunct capitalistic system and just following orders to implement that system of domination and control. They didn't have the intelligence of us professional workers to even know they were being so manipulated. Such lack of self-awareness seemed in fact a prerequisite for the job.

And there is a better way called the lattice organization.

Attributes of the Lattice: No fixed or assigned authority; Sponsors (mentors) not bosses; Natural leadership defined by followership; Person-to-person communication; Objectives set by those who must make things happen; Tasks and functions organized through commitments. Each person in the Lattice interacts directly with every other person with no intermediary.
